RTW Southern hemisphere: Australia > Buenos Aires, overland to Sao Paulo > Johannesburg > Australia
Stalk, prowl and hunt your way across exotic lands and foreign plains. Come out to play and unleash your wild side on this 3 stop jaunt across the Southern Hemisphere. Spot the Big 5 on safari, kite surf the Cape, soak up Iguassu Falls. Don't forget your camera on this one!
The estimate at the top of this page prices the flights from Sydney.
How the loop works
Few airlines fly across the southern oceans, and this route uses the links that exist. From Sydney you fly to South America through Santiago: Qantas and LATAM both fly Sydney to Santiago nonstop, and most one-stop flights to Buenos Aires connect there. South African Airways flies nonstop between Sao Paulo and Johannesburg, and Qantas flies Johannesburg to Sydney nonstop to close the loop.
Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo by land
This is the stretch that takes you to Iguassu Falls. The bus from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu takes 17 to 18 hours, and the better buses have sleeper seats and serve meals. Cross to Foz do Iguacu on the Brazilian side and it's another 15 to 17 hours by bus to Sao Paulo. Give the falls at least two days, one for each side.
For a longer loop that starts in Cape Town and takes in Sydney, Auckland, Lima and Rio, see RTW Southern Hemisphere.
