Beijing to London
The 2013 version of this route stopped in Moscow. It doesn't now. Air China flies Heathrow to Beijing nonstop in about 10 hours, the only airline on that route, so the first leg is a single flight.
New York to Los Angeles by train
The overland stretch is the classic American rail crossing. Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited takes you from New York to Chicago overnight, and the Southwest Chief carries on to Los Angeles, which you reach about 64 hours after leaving New York. Stop off in Chicago, or at Flagstaff for the Grand Canyon, and it's even better.
Tahiti to Tokyo
Air Tahiti Nui flies nonstop from Los Angeles to Papeete and from Papeete to Tokyo Narita on a Boeing 787-9. Check the season: in 2026 the Tokyo flights stopped from 16 June to 9 September, so fix the Tahiti dates before the rest of the trip.
