TAILOR MADE RTW Itineraries:

Perhaps the biggest reason to travel on a tour, rather than independently, is that you can cover more ground in a short time. On your own, you'll spend a significant amount of your time organising things that others arrange in advance for people on tours, and you won't be able to make as 'efficient' use of your time for sightseeing.

A tailor-made trip gets you some of both. You choose the stops and how long you stay in each, and someone who does this every day sorts out the flights between them.

What that means in practice

The route doesn't have to follow one alliance's rulebook. A specialist can mix a low-cost airline in Asia with a long-haul flight on another carrier, and leave gaps you cover by bus, train or boat. AirTreks has built multi-stop itineraries like this since 1987.

Before you ask for a price, settle three things: which direction you're going, how long you have, and when you can leave. Then lay the route out in the AirTreks trip planner, or start from one of the sample routes other travellers flew and change it.
